I see your name now and feel nothing,
Absolutely nothing.
It’s like your name is written in another language
One I’ve never known but oddly recognize
But I guess that’s art imitating life,
A true testament to our relationship
You see, now you’re like a shadow to me
The image of a person distorted by light;
As whole as it would ever be but never complete
You’re a memory,
One that’s in the past but still ever present to me
I know I love you, I just can’t remember why.
There’s something about your name,
I can’t place it but I feel it
The clearest confusion I’ve experienced to date
Maybe if I say it three times in the mirror the person I knew would come back to me,
Maybe you would bring the good memories in a sack over your shoulder,
Maybe the piece of me attached to you, that I hoped I’d never lose would come back too.
